Our Story

“I want to stay home with my kids.”

The first phrase that would forever change our lives.

I had been working in the medical field for 10 years. I loved my job and the people who surrounded me, but it eventually it was not enough. We had two boys at this time and I longed to be that stay-at-home mom. Unfortunately, like most Americans, we needed my income to survive--Josh is a fireman and we could not make it off his salary alone.

I first got hooked-up with a pyramid-type direct marketing 'opportunity.' During that time, our eyes were opened to what our American 'food system' was about. We started doing research, watching documentaries and following 'The Lunatic Farmer' Joel Salatin. Needless to say, we read, watched and listened, and knew where God was leading us. We quickly decided that we never ever wanted to step foot in a grocery store again. Although that is not really a reality, we knew we could at least do something to minimize our exposure to conventional food.

“Let’s farm!” another phrase that changed it all.

We sold our house in town and moved to the country. We started with seven backyard chickens selling their eggs. We needed to make sure we could do this - that we could keep animals alive and produce better-tasting and better-quality food without all the added 'junk' you get at the grocery store. Josh read  Joel’s books and we traveled several times to visit with him personally. We loved what he was about and fell in love with his heart for this land and the food we eat. We quickly adopted the Salatin-style farming methods.

I became pregnant with our third child and decided not to go back to work--instead, I decided that I was going to be a permanent stay-at-home mom! So, I grew and so did our business. It took (and still does) a lot of invested time, sweat, tears, and perseverance to get where we are today. Every day is a new day with a new set of challenges.

If farming had not been the calling, then we would not have been able to do this. We are here to bring our passion to your table.
